When your a backpacker , you should  carry and pack a variety of items when going for an excursion.Among the many items that one cannot miss is the backpacker. A backpacker is a small bag containing most of the essential utilities that one needs often.

This pack is always carried on ones back and it should not be very elaborate. It has become a culture for every traveler to carry a back pack majorly for the most important small things. A wrong choice of backpack means more shoulder pain and may be back pain too. In essence, a bad backpack causes unnecessary pain during your holiday. You can save yourself all that pain if you follow these handy tips that I have put together based on several experiences from various travelers that I have shared this issue with;

For all practical purposes, male travelers should look for a backpack in the 55 to 65 liters category while female travelers should look for backpacks in the 45 to 55 liters category. I do understand that a lot of travelers want to carry the entire kitchen sink and if you do end up carrying it, carry it in a large trolley suitcase and not in a backpack. I have recommended the volume based on the average weight that one can comfortably carry on their back for long durations without complaining of any pain.

A backpack should hug your back in a way like how a glove hugs your hands in a snug fit. Fit is super essential in getting the right backpack. There are 3 fits that one needs to take into account: Shoulder Fit, Lumbar Fit and Hip Fit. It is best to walk into a store to see which backpack fits you best as backpack fits typically varies with shoulder width, torso length and waist size.

These days, backpacks come with small day packs that can be detached from the main backpack. While, these are super convenient and helpful, I do not prefer them as they affect the center of gravity while wearing the pack. But, if this option works for you, do opt for it, as it will offer you the convenience of a backpack and a day pack in one piece and for the price of one.

Most backpacks come with rain proof material, but it is their zippers that are not rain-proof. The ones that have rain-proof zippers don’t last for long. My choice is a good semi rain-proof pack with a rain cover. The rain cover can either come with your pack or it can be purchased separately.
There are many backpacks that expand like a balloon on adding clothes and gear. You shouldn’t prefer such backpacks as they affect fit, center of gravity and end up taking too much weight. Go for packs that are a tight fit and thereby ensuring fit, posture, center of gravity and weight. Such packs come in very handy while you go on mountaineering expeditions, trekking and other adventure activities.

The ease of packing and unpacking in a backpack depends on the number of compartments it has. Always prefer the ones that have top loading, middle loading and bottom loading facilities. That way, you can separately take the heavy items from the top, my clothes from the middle and my sleeping bag from the bottom without tossing the contents of the entire backpack. There should also be small fit pouches where you can store things that require quick access.
Like most baggage, backpacks also get thrown around at airports, train stations and bus stations and they also have to bear the elements. Hence, it is recommended that you choose a backpack that has a tough exterior with anti-tear properties.

Backpacks have to be light. It helps with airline weight regulations and is also appreciated by your shoulder.
Like with all baggage, buy a backpack that is easy to identify or at least put some sticker or badge that allows for easy identification.

There is some level of mental satisfaction if you can put a lock on your backpack zippers. This helps everywhere especially at airports and in hotels. But, don’t trust these lockable zippers to store cash, electronics and or jewelry.
All said and done, a good backpack must be carried with one knowing what to do and when to do it.So
please now we tackle the issue of shoes.

The state and type of shoe one is putting on can either ruin or make ones vacation a success. Shoes come in various types forms and every shoe has its designated time when to be worn. So the moment you put on a wrong shoe for a wrong activity then that is a gone case. Always select the best shoes for a given activity. This article is intended to highlight when to put on a certain kind of shoe without affecting your feet and thus making your vacation a success;
These days travel accessories are all about fashion, comfort and utility. It is always a cat and a mouse game to find accessories that comply with all these three parameters. And more so with an important accessory like a good pair of shoes.

Over many years of experience as in how a shoe can turn your vacation the other way round, I have put together some handy tips to help you choose those perfect pair of shoes for your next holiday or long trip.
Wouldn’t it be nice to have a pair of shoes that you can wear for your dinner, take on your day hike, carry off on a visit to the museum and use it for walking around? Traditionally, people recommend substance or utility over fashion for a good pair of travel shoes. But, I think if planned well, you can carry off utility and fashion together. I would say that all shoes have to be fashionable else they don’t become a good pair of travel shoes. They can be made of leather, suede, nylon or any material. If they don’t look fashion friendly, they don’t deserve to be in your travel kit.
If you are a frequent traveler, you will immediately concur with me on this. Boots with steel toes that make the X-Ray machines go crazy or shoes with long laces that take ages to tie are a pain while clearing security at the airport. It is best to have shoes that have no metal in them and can be removed and worn easily. The loafers are a good example of airport-friendly shoes.

Given the fact that each airline has a weight restriction and you also need something that is a little bit light, it makes sense to carry a lighter pack or suitcase. And that applies to your pair of shoes as well. In case you wish to change to your flip flops, you have to ensure that your baggage doesn’t become heavy and bulky because of your travel shoes. Lightweight shoes also feel great while walking long distances.

I have on several occasions seen a lot of tourists wearing running shoes for holidays, but those pair of shoes wear out really fast when you go on short hikes or indulge in lot of street walking and especially if you carry a backpack. Hence, good soles are super critical for your travel shoes. They should have great grip, great cushioning and they should be anti-skid.

What is the point of having great shoes if you keep sweating in them? Air tight shoes lead to bad feet odour and bad sock odour both of which are not preferable for closed hotel rooms and hostels. And even worse no one like sweaty feet while walking. It’s better to have shoes with a breathable membrane which means that they keep your feet dry and they also dry out quickly in case they get wet.

It is good to have solid cushioning for any kind of travel shoes as travelers always end up walking more on holidays. It is preferable to have high level of cushioning especially in the midsole. Good cushioning helps with bumps, prevents the feet from getting blisters and allows you to walk yourself a bit more without any discomfort.
In one of the articles, I exhaustively discussed a good backpack in which we highlighted good backpacking things including shoes. So here we are looking at specifically what and how back packing look. So here should are simple and handy tips that should help you choose your new pair of backpacking boots.

While backpacking, the boots not only carry our weight, but handle the extra load of our backpack. If proper planning is not done in this regard, you will end up buying a pair of boots that will wear out very quickly. The idea is to find a pair of boots that comes with a very solid outsole that is built to handle heavy loads for long periods of time.
Lightweight footwear not only feels good while on the feet but they feel even better when you carry them in your backpack. The last thing you want is to make your pack heavy while walking around in flip flops on a beach.
You should be able to walk, climb, trek, run with your boots anywhere and at any time. Irrespective of the terrain, weather or exertion, your feet should not get blisters or feel sore. If they do, the purpose of the boots is lost. Hence, make sure that your boots fit your feet properly. There should be no abrasion, tightness, looseness, internal slipping, etc. Your boots should fit your feet just like your sock.

Most of the destinations around the world are hot or tropical in nature. Hence, the bulk of your travels require a pair of boots fit for tropical weather. This means that your boots should have a breathable top so that you don’t feel like you are walking in a puddle of sweat all the time. When you travel to colder weather, you can either wear a pair of woolen socks with these boots or switch to a pair of winter boots.
If your boots look very pretty, they become prime targets for theft. I don’t think any of us would want that especially since the boots are important to us while traveling and they cost quite a bit of money too. If you cannot avoid loud colors for some reason, try and make it dirty Smile

While traveling, we cannot carry different foot wear for different occasions. If you do, you will end up carrying a super heavy backpack. Hence, try and select a pair of boots that you can wear with your favorite pair of trousers or jean for a movie or dinner date with your girlfriend. You can even wear them to look presentable when invited by local families.
Boots should always feel comfortable with thick cushioning and they should come with deep grooves for solid grip. Thick cushioning and deep grooves in the outsole ensure that you find them comfortable and trust its grip even after significant wear and tear over many years of travel.
Any hiking enthusiast knows the importance of choosing the right outdoor footwear before heading out on an exciting adventure. With the proper hiking boots, you can easily traverse any rough roads and steep mountains. The great outdoors can be very unpredictable. Even if you start your trip on a sunny weather, there is still a big chance that it might rain. This sudden change can greatly affect your trip.
When it comes to choosing the right boots, it is highly recommended if you start by determining what kind of hiker you really are. Will you be crossing a terrain that is light and has less vegetation? Will you be taking your trip on a summer day? Are you climbing rocky and steep mountain rangers? These are just some of the questions that you need to consider when choosing the right shoes.
Hiking boots are usually categorized based on their cuts. The rule of thumb is that the higher the boot cut, the heavier the footwear.
As a lightweight boot, a low cut boot is perfect for casual strolls on your local woods during a dry weather. Its main characteristics are soft, flexible, and breathable. These boots only reach slightly above the ankle, so it offers great support to your feet.
These are medium weight shoes that are ideal for longer hikes on tough terrain with higher vegetation. It has a higher level of ankle support, and most products are water-proof to help hikers survive sudden weather changes.
This is the heaviest boot among the three categories. Commonly known as mountaineering boots, these are specially designed for extremely difficult terrain and tough weather conditions. They offer great protection to your feet, but they are not as breathable as low-cut shoes.
